What is ipsy?

Look at all the wonderful things!

Ipsy is a beauty subscription service that sends you 5 products (usually 3 deluxe samples and 2 full size products) in a cute little bag with different themes for $10.00 per month. For a full description of this service see this post.

What did you get this month?

Alright, I’m a little late on this one. Life has been happening.

The Glam Bag for July 2018 is a pretty iridescent blue bag, blue and sparkly like water in a swimming pool.

The July ipsy Glam Bag is a beautiful iridescent aqua blue with a white rubberized zipper and pull. This bag is super cute. I’m gonna hang onto this one.

OFRA full-size eyeshadow pan in the shade Syrup. A coppery colder shade perfect for summer.

OFRA Cosmetics Eyeshadow Single in the shade Syrup (4 grams/0.14 oz; $15 USD). I like OFRA eyeshadows. I got another OFRA shadow single in an ipsy bag a while back. I can see why people like this brand. This is one of the full-sized products in my bag this time. This particular shade is a warm golden copper that looks great blended all over the eyelid in a single shadow look.

Here’s the single-shadow eye look I created using only the OFRA shadow in Syrup.

This particular color also makes blue eyes POP. I got a lot of compliments on it when I wore it out and about in that way. I even got compliments from a couple of ladies who work at Sephora. OFRA shadows are definitely richly pigmented. A little goes a long way with this. This shadow also blends out nicely. This is a full-size item, and I am very happy with it. I would consider purchasing other OFRA eyeshadows.

MintPear Rosehip Night Serum. Not much to show. The nozzle dispenses one drop at a time with a gentle squeeze of the bottle.

MintPear Rosehip Night Serum (0.27 fl oz; $49 USD for 1 fl oz./30 ml). I like facial serums. I’m not sure I like this. It has a great ingredients list: Organic cold-pressed rosehip seed oil, Jojoba oil, Pomegranate seed oil, Carrot seed oil, Red raspberry seed oil, Maraca (Passionfuit) seed oil, Tomato seed oil, Waterercress seed oil, Calendula + Lavender essential oil.

I was with it until the lavender essential oil. I hate lavender. It’s a scent that has never smelled good to me. Fortunately, the lavender scent doesn’t hang around long after application. I put 3-4 drops in my palm, then rubbed my hands together and gently patted it on my face and neck.

The serum feels lightweight and sinks into the skin quickly. I would consider this to be a dry-finish oil serum, as my face didn’t feel oily at all after I applied it. My face also didn’t feel super oily when I woke up the next morning as can sometimes happen when I just use straight up rosehip seed oil. My skin looked pretty much the same after sleeping in the serum, no new pimples or anything. I need to use this a bit more before I say for sure if I would purchase the full size or not.

IBY Beauty Eyeshadow Fluff. Not the best brush I’ve ever used, but it’s not bad either.

IBY Beauty Eyeshadow Fluff Brush ($8.00 USD). This is also a full-sized item. IBY Beauty brushes are cruelty-free and vegan, meaning they have synthetic bristles. I like this brush. It feels pretty good in the hand. The bristles are not as fluffy as the name might imply. I used this with the OFRA Shadow Single in Syrup and found it much better for packing on the shadow than blending it out. In order to get a good blend, I had to use a different brush. I like it and will continue using it, but do I think it’s $8.00 worth of good? Not really.

How do you capture perfume in a photo? The best I can do is show you this vial with a sprayer.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Eau de Toilette in Vanille Blackberry (5 ml/0.169 fl oz; $23 USD for 0.3 fl oz). If you like light perfumes, you might like this. I did not. The 5 ml vial has a sprayer on it, so I didn’t have to fight to get a lid off like you sometimes do with perfume samples. I spritzed this on my wrist. It smelled okay at first, but it did not go well with my personal chemistry. For me, this is not something I would purchase a full size of.

This is possibly my favorite item in this Glam Bag. Then again, I do love a good lipgloss.

Give Then Lala Beauty lipgloss in the shade The Affair ($16 USD). I am really into lipgloss right now. Lipgloss is a perfect summer product. Light, glossy, easy to wear and reapply. No muss, low fuss. This gloss is no exception. This is one of the full-sized products in my Glam Bag. It is a full color gloss with a thin lip feel. It’s not sticky or goopy. According to the site, it’s also cruelty-free.

The color is a rich pinky caramel that would look good on most skin tones. It also wears really well. The color sticks around for a bit after the glossiness is gone. It has a light vanilla scent, but it’s not overpowering and fades not long after application. I would be interested in checking out other gloss colors from this brand.

Do you feel this Glam Bag was worth the money?

Considering that I like the three full-sized items, and the three full-sized items alone are worth $39.00, I’d say yes, this bag was worth my $10.00. I’m quite happy with the eyeshadow and the lipgloss. I will get some use out of the eyeshadow brush. I need to keep using the night serum to figure out if it’s worth the money. The eau de toilette is going directly into my Give To Friends bag.

Now, I’m pretty sure I’m getting the August Glam Bag, but I have paused my ipsy subscription. As I mentioned, life things are happening and cash flow may be tight for a while. I will resume my ipsy subscription when I feel I’m able.
