Mini Haul: Wet N Wild Limited Edition Flights of Fancy Summer 2018

I was going to hold off on buying new makeup for a while, but then I stumbled upon these babies at my local grocery store beauty aisle.

Oooooh… Pretty! But why a mini haul?

Because I didn’t want or need the entire collection. The display had pretty much everything except one color of the lip gloss and one color of the blush.  Besides that, even though Wet N Wild is pretty affordable, the cost does add up, and I’m trying to get my spending under better control. I think it’s fair to say that I have more than enough makeup at this time.

So… What did you get?

Color Icon Eyeshadow Quads in Stop Ruffling My Feathers and Flock Party.

I picked up two of the three quads mostly because the third quad, Hasta La Costa Baby, is mostly blue and purple, and I don’t usually wear that color combo unless it’s for a bellydance look. Stop Ruffling My Feathers and Flock Party have color stories that are right up my alley. Warm peachy and burgundy hues with some shimmer and matte finishes? Yes, please!

Color Icon Baked Blushes in Hummingbird Hype and Dare to Soar.

I have to admit that the blushes had already been marked down to about $3 each at my local store. Otherwise, I might have passed these up. Admittedly, the color Dare to Soar looks a bit bright and scary in the pan, but one of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus assured me that it is quite wearable on fair skin. Hummingbird Hype might be a little more difficult for me to pull off as this one looks to be almost pure, shimmery, dark, peachy gold.

Color Icon Lip Gloss in Fly Gal.

I am soooo into lip gloss right now. Okay, so in all honesty, I’ve always been into glossy lips, it just wasn’t cool to wear a glossy lip for two or three years. Now, GLOSSY LIPS ARE BACK, BABY!

I chose this color because I wasn’t sure how much color this gloss would actually have, or how long that color would stick around. Fly Gal is a light warm pink color that I can actually wear. (Pale pink lip color tends to be very hit or miss for me.)

It wears pretty well for a lip gloss. It has more of a cream finish, so the color is a bit more opaque than a lot of bargain lipglosses. It feels fairly moisturizing on the lips without feeling heavy or sticky. Keep in mind that if you have long hair, it will stick to this gloss if it gets blown around.

This lipgloss has a scent to it, but it’s not very strong and it fades quickly. It’s not very long wearing, but it is a lipgloss. Reapplication is to be expected. The flat, flexible doe foot applicator makes reapplication super easy.

Basically, I liked this gloss well enough that I also picked up the shade Shut The Pluck Up.

How does everything else wear?

As for everything else, I feel like the blushes and most of the shadows wore really well. A couple of the colors in the quads are a little difficult to work with, but not terrible.

I wanted to keep my base for each day the same so none of the products had a better chance for success because I used something different underneath. So for each of the following looks, I used L’Oreal’s Infallable Matte-lock primer and Nyx’s Pore Filler, e.l.f.’s Hydrating Undereye Primer, Catrice Concealer in Well Rested, followed by IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Fair, NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder (discontinued), Colourpop’s Precise Brow Pencil in Redhead, and The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer highlight. I used Wet N Wild’s Photofocus eyeshadow primer each day. I finished with Sephora’s Beauty Amplifier setting spray.

The Eyeshadows…

The eyeshadows started off strong, but faded over the course of the day. I found the shimmery, peachy, rose-gold eyelid shade in Stop Ruffling My Feathers was not as strong as would have liked it to be. Applying it with a fingertip or a dampened flat shadow brush might have given better results. The bright burgundy crease shade in Flock Party was definitely not as aggressive as it looks in the pan. It was a bit patchy in application and didn’t have much staying power. All the other eyeshadows stayed put pretty well.

The Blushes…

As for the blushes, I felt like both Hummingbird Hype and Dare to Soar stayed put pretty well. Keep in mind that I blotted and powdered my face at least twice over the course of an 11 hour day. Hummingbird Hype is definitely more of a blush topper for me than a straight up blush. I can see this one being stunning on deeper skin tones. The burgundy shade, Dare to Soar, actually is quite wearable for us Pale Princesses. Because of the shimmer, it has a highlighter built in. Dare to Soar looks really bright in the pan, but you have to build it up to get good color with it. That’s not a complaint. I’d rather have to build it up than try to use a super light hand every time I put it on.

The Lipglosses…

I do like the lip glossses. There is a bit of a reapplication factor, as I mentioned above, but I don’t mind because it’s lip gloss. The color on these is pretty rich and hangs around after the initial high gloss look is gone. My lips felt nicely hydrated while wearing these.

Thoughts Overall…

I feel like the Flights of Fancy collection is worth looking into if you want to add some pops of color to your summer makeup routine. Even if you can’t find these items in stores near you, you can find them online.
